Backyard Shinanigans
The day I've been waiting for has officially come! I bought a Canon Rebel from a girl at the office for a great price. Here are my first photos from the past two days as I've tried to learn how to use it.

New Age Mumbo Jumbo?
Staying in the present, it sounds like such a simple concept, but I always find myself dwelling in the past or projecting into the future. I'm beginning to realize the present is where life is occurring and very much alive, and it's where I need to be consciously. It's almost as if I'm scared and opting out of my life by not remaining in the present, like I can only handle it in small doses before I escape into the past or future. I need to make an honest effort to stay present in my life because it is at this very moment that life is changing and reshaping and branching into new directions. Life in the present is dynamic while life in the past and future is stagnant.
I want to make a serious commitment to myself to be in the moment and open to all the possibilities life will bring my way.

Eat Da Poo Poo
"Like ice cream!" I don't know what else to say to this but, really? I mean really??! I am stunned by the stupidity of this over generalized, hateful and fear driven assumption.
Hey world, we've come pretty far, but we still have quite a long way to go.

Go the F*ck to Sleep
I know children's books for adults are all the rage right now but there is something slightly enchanting about Go the F*ck to Sleep by Adam Mansbach. Maybe it's because it's got the balls to say what we've all thought once or twice in our lives when we've put a child down for bed.
Below are two of my favorite new lullabies. Lay down your weary lil head and take a listen.

It Should Happen to Me!
This is one of the most delightfully charming movies I have ever seen. Judy Holliday is a gem among silver screen stars.

CEO of Sadness
It's so easy to love NYC on TV, in fantasies and memories. Even though I am riddled with the occasional backlash of regret, I have to remember the reality of what NY was to me. It was like a totally twisted relationship and you stuck it out because it wasn't always so bad. On it's good days it was amazing, exciting, filled with hope, possibilities and opportunity. And on it's worst days it was a cruel jokester, who would lure me in only to beat the crap out of me and drop kick me when I was down and out. But I am coming to terms with the notion of loving NYC from afar because if I don't I am going to be on the fast track to becoming a Sad Sally and sadness is not my business.
Here is another case of the music crazies for the medical books. On my walk home, Waiting For a Star to Fall-Boy Meets Girl came on and I was on cloud nine. I know, I know, it's ridiculously cheesy but you'd have to be dead not to feel good when this song comes on. At least the day ended on a high note (literally)!

I Can't Make You Love This
...As much as I do. Bonnie Raitt's I Can't Make You Love Me is one of my all time favorite songs. I love that Bon Iver took a crack at it by covering it in his unique style.

Good Friday
I met my sisters for happy hour last night after work. It was a nice way to start the weekend, three beers for five bucks and some tasty burritos from one of the local delis, in my frugal old age of twenty eight that is a real bargain. But the real joy of the night was when Gina and Rafi hand delivered their wedding invitation to me. I just love those two. I never get too overly excited for weddings but these two have been in love as long as I have known them and that is a beautiful thing that deserves to be celebrated.

Running Out Of Time
I am going to be thirty in less than two years. I am running out of time to have naughty adventures, to be careless and fickle. These three things all become irresponsible and stupid after the age of thirty. I mean, I already have friends with kids and houses for Christ's sake (<--that's just for emphasis). But you can explain anything away by saying "Oh I was just a twenty something when that happened.". I've never been one to dive in head first, I've always waded my way through life using calm calculation and cool observation. Maybe that's why I feel like I've missed out on a lot of things. I've got two years to get this out of my system, otherwise, I am going to have one hell of a mid-life crisis and we all know that crap is one big laughable joke.

Pat on the Proverbial Back
My emotional fortitude never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I'm at my weakest, I surprise myself and can be the sturdy foundation my family needs to keep the world from crumbling down.

Lookin' For Love
Lookin' for love
I've spent a lifetime looking for you
Single bars and good time lovers, never true
Playing a fools game, hoping to win
Telling those sweet lies and losing again.
I was looking for love in all the wrong places
Looking for love in too many faces
Searching your eyes, looking for traces
Of what.. I'm dreaming of...
Hopin' to find a friend and a lover
God bless the day I discover
Another heart, lookin' for love
When I was alone then, no love in sight
And I did everything I could to get me through the night
Don't know where it started or where it might end
I turn to a stranger, just like a friend
I was looking for love in all the wrong places
Looking for love in too many faces
Searching your eyes, looking for traces
Of what.. I'm dreaming of...
Hopin' to find a friend and a lover
God bless the day I discover
Another heart, lookin' for love
You came a'knocking at my heart's door..
You're everything I've been looking for..
No more looking for love in all the wrong places
Looking for love in too many faces
Searching your eyes, looking for traces
Of what.. I'm dreaming of...
Now that I found a friend and a lover
God bless the day I discover
You, oh you, lookin' for love
In all the wrong places
Looking for love in too many faces
Searching your eyes, looking for traces
Of what.. I'm dreaming of...
Now that I found a friend and a lover
God bless the day I discover
You, oh you, lookin' for love
